Rock Climbing Innovations –The Nova
A climbing wall that doubles as a tasteful piece of art? A new in home climbing system allows climbers of all abilities the opportunity to move the climbing gym to their very own living room. When the mountains are covered in snow and your local climbing gym is packed with bearded rocks rats, just make the short trek out of your bedroom and start climbing up the living room wall.
Developed by a Munich-based design studio, this climbing system made its debut earlier this year. While most climbers probably aren’t very concerned with decorating their homes in modern art, the wall’s innovation and technology are remarkable. The wall is synched to an iPhone application that can design routes up the wall and record and analyze each climbing session. Sensors in the pattern cut-outs on the walls (what you use as hand and foot holds) light up to show different routes of ranging difficulties. While the wall’s practicality may still be in question this new technology is worth checking out.
To date, there is no word from LUNAR as to whether the wall will be sold commercially.
